Born in 1809, Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States of America. As he grew up, his family didn’t have much money and he worked hard and became a lawyer. Abraham had clinical depression for most of his adult life, which meant that when difficult things happened, he had no control over a plunging sadness that would sweep over him and make him feel exhausted. Even when he was in the depths of his depression, he never lost sight of the importance of helping others. As president he issued something called the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed more than 3.5 million enslaved African Americans.
